Hümeyra Can

Hümeyra is working as an English instructor at Hacettepe University in the School of Foreign Languages. She graduated from METU English Language Teaching Department in 2008 and is now a graduate student in the same department.

Her main areas of interest are: Based on Turkish and English languages, contrastive analysis, pragmatics and discourse analysis, (im)politeness theory and cultural studies. She is also interested in English Language Teaching methodology and material development.

  • What is a Corpus?

    • A corpus is a large, usually computerized, database of spoken and/or written texts of a language, which allows for “searching for, retrieveing, sorting and calculating lingusitic data” (McEnery & Wilson 1996: 17).

  • Aim of the Project

    • The aim of METU Spoken Turkish Corpus Project (ODT-STD) is to construct a linguistically analyzed corpus consisting of one million words of face-to-face or mediated interactions in contemporary Turkish. The corpus will be made available to academia and researchers in all areas of studies related to language.
